Details About WCCN
& The Publications |
Welcome to WCCN Publishing, a supporter of the RFID
Association Australia (RFIDAA). Part of the proceeds of RFIDAA-referred
orders to WCCN publications will be donated to RFIDAA for use in its work
of fostering the proper and healthy deployment of RFID for enterprise
object tacking systems. Arguably, there is no greater proponent for the use
of RFID in the enterprise than WCCN. Properly deployed, RFID is one of a
small set of enablers that will usher in a level of exceptional economic
prosperity that will be truly global in nature, and in the process RFID
will totally redefine what is meant by “The Supply
Chain”. Unfortunately, RFID has gotten off to a poor start,
or more accurately, deployment of RFID has commenced prematurely. But, it
accomplishes little to cry over the spilling of pre-Gen2
reliability-challenged chips, and the past deployment of architecturally-impoverished RFID
infrastructures. The lesson learned is that mandate compliance may be a necessary cost of doing
business for some, but such mandates have created a round of ROI-less false starts, and RFID deployment practices that
need to be corrected. Mandates aside, the key to accruing the benefits,
and even in making the justification for deploying RFID, is in looking at
RFID holistically as an element of an enterprise’s automation system. The
enterprise’s architectural approach should be, first and foremost, in
compliance with the enterprise’s fundamental systems architectural
infrastructure. And in that context, the RFID infrastructure that is
deployed should provide every bit of real-time tracking, on an individual
item basis, as Wi-Fi
integrated laser scanning
provided on a bulk item basis. In this context, tracking objects
only occasionally as they pass a Portal Reader, is a step
backwards. WCCN is insistent that what is required is Full-Time RFID
tracking, employing architectures such as the ones covered in The WCCN
Letter.
Beyond the ability to migrate to individual item
tracking, RFID has the promise to drastically minimize the level of human
resources required in routine daily operation of an enterprise. A benefit
with incredible bottom line impact. Finally, RFID is essential to the e-business
paradigm shift in the way business is conducted among supply chain
partners. Thus, RFID is key to global economic prosperity that e-business
practices promise in this networked world. It is with this perspective that WCCN covers RFID
for Interactive Enterprise Automation Systems in The WCCN
Letter.
